A very important announcement from Grasshopper Pie

07/16/06

Dear Fans,
Regrettably, nothing lasts forever. It’s with bitter-sweet emotion that we announce that Grasshopper Pie is ending our decade-long run.

Before we offer an explanation, we do want to make clear that we have 3 dates left on our schedule – including most notably, Tabfest this weekend. We will play a final show on Saturday, October 7th at Little Brother’s in Columbus.

We started our journey in a leaky basement in Bowling Green in 1995. There was no grand vision beyond catching a buzz and getting a spot at the local open mic night. None of us dreamed that more than a decade later we’d still be sharing our original music with audiences all over the region, and beyond. We’ve recorded 2 albums and played hundreds of shows for friends and fans from all walks of life. Words will never express the gratitude we feel towards everyone who supported us throughout this adventure.

The band separates as dear friends, and the bond we forged at smoky clubs and rainy festivals will remain forever. There was no dramatic “Spinal Tap” moment – although we’ve had plenty of those over the years. Our lives have changed. Some of us now have wives and children, and our day jobs aren’t as forgiving as they used to be. We came to the conclusion as a group that the time was right to end this chapter in our lives.

A big thanks to our manager and mentor JT Horvath, without whom we would have disintegrated long ago. Thanks to our good friend Dan Clevenger who served many years as our road manager. Thanks to Bill Kurzenberger, whose keys have been a great compliment to the band this past year. We especially want to thank our wives, girlfriends and children, who have put up with long weekends on the road and late-night practice sessions.

This will be the seventh time we play Tabfest, a stage that has been host to so some of our most memorable and magical shows. Please join us in Mendon, because we plan to blow the roof off the place.

We love you, and we’ll miss you.
John, Warren, Greg and Mike

GP's 10th Anniversary Show in Bowling Green was a near sellout with the band laying down nearly four hours worth of music recorded live for a double CD to be released in the summer of 2006. It was great to see and party with all our old BG friends & fans who came back from all over the country to spend some time with the band and be part of this celebration. Many thanks to Robb McCormick of One Under and The Shantee for playing keyboards with GP throughout the year. Robb is an awesome musician an we appreciate him being a part of this 10th Anniversary year. Stay tuned for some exciting developments and shows in 2006 as we start our secong decade together. Thank you so much for your support - we love you all !

This is GP's 6th show with The Recipe this year and you can expect a kick-ass show from both bands.
The Recipe just seems to get better and better every time I hear them and I love their new material. They are definitely a crowd pleaser, great musicians & songwriters and most importantly genuinely nice and sincere people.
GP loves playing shows with them and its always a pleasure to have them in our home town.
You might want to get there early for a good spot to see the show. Little Brothers was nearly sold-out when we did this same show back in April.
Hope to see you all there Friday ! Thanks again to all for your support these past 10 years.
